The residents of the village of Grindu in Tulcea County spend every night in fear because of Russia's attacks on Ukraine's Danube port infrastructure, with the sounds of explosions being heard very loudly in the area.

'We live every night under stress, afraid something might happen in the village. Last night (Monday to Tuesday night - editor's note) they sounded very close. The houses shook, everything did. I think it was a disaster in Ukraine (Reni - editor's note). In the three years I've lived here, there have been seven or eight such powerful explosions,' said Radu Ion, a local resident repairing a household fence in the morning.

Some residents said they have become used to the sounds of war in the neighbouring country and that the only place they can take shelter is in their own homes.

'There's nothing we can do. You can't make cellars here because the water is right at the surface. If you try to dig one, you hit water. At the first attacks there was more fear, but then you start to get used to it, because there's nothing else you can do if the Russians want land,' said Vasile Gheorghe.

Representatives of the Ministry of National Defence (MApN), the County Police Inspectorate and the Romanian Intelligence Service checked on Tuesday morning the site where one of the drones used by Russia in its war against Ukraine had crashed.

According to the Ministry of National Defence, during the night from Monday to Tuesday, Romanian radars detected groups of drones in the area adjacent to national airspace, which led to the preventive activation of air defence systems.

'The weather conditions in the south-eastern part of the country did not allow aircraft from the Air Police combat service to take off. At 01:09, MApN was informed of the impact with the ground of an aerial vehicle in the Grindu area, approximately five kilometres south of the border. Military teams were deployed to the site and reported the presence of possible drone fragments. The area was secured,' reads a press release from the Ministry of National Defence.
