The turnover in wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, as unadjusted series, increased by 1.6% in the first five months of this year, due to increased turnover in the motor vehicle maintenance and repair sector, motorcycle trade, and auto parts and accessories.
According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Tuesday, motor vehicle maintenance and repair activities recorded a 17.8% increase between January - May 2025, trade in motorcycles, related parts and accessories, as well as the motorcycle maintenance and repair sector, were up 15.5%, and trade in motor vehicle parts and accessories rose 0.3%. Trade in motor vehicles fell by 0.5%.
As workday and seasonally adjusted series, the volume of turnover in wholesale and retail trade, maintenance, and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles increased by 1.2% in the first five months.
In May, the total turnover in wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, unadjusted series, increased by 4.2% compared to the previous month, due to increases in trade in motorcycles, parts and accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (+12.3%), maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (+6.7%), trade in motor vehicle parts and accessories (+4.9%) and trade in motor vehicles (+3.2%).
On an adjusted basis, the total turnover in wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles remained at the same level in May compared to April.
Compared to May 2024, the total turnover in wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, unadjusted series, increased by 2.4%, due to increases in trade in motorcycles, parts and accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (+25.8%), maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (+22.6%) and trade in parts and accessories for motor vehicles (+7.2%). Trade in motor vehicles decreased by 2.9%.
On an adjusted basis, turnover in wholesale and retail trade, maintenance, and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles recorded a 6% increase compared to the same period last year.
