Two Romanian boxers secured medals on Sunday at the European Under-17 Boxing Championships in Kienbaum (Germany), bringing the total number of medalists to six.
Raian-Nicholas Cola reached the semifinals of the 54 kg category after defeating German boxer Calvin Mattern by technical knockout in the second round. In the penultimate round, Cola will face Turkish boxer Muhammet Ali Arli on December 15.
In the 63 kg category, Florin-Nelu Ulmeanu triumphed over Latvian Grafs Putrasevics in the quarterfinals with a 5-0 points victory and will box Greek Ermis Diinekis Ziogas in the semifinals on December 15.
Ioan-Serban Stoica was defeated in the quarterfinals of the 52 kg category, losing on points (2-3) to Ukrainian Oleksi Kolbaia.
In the women's competition, Iasmina-Georgiana Moraru was defeated on points (0-5) by Irish boxer Lucie Prentice in the 50 kg category.
Jessica-Sara Persa lost to Turkish Ummu Sila Kutluata on points (0-5) in the quarterfinals of the 57 kg category.
Antonia Karina Lavinia Pavel was knocked out in the second round by Ukrainian Polina Kovera in the 63 kg quarterfinals.
On Saturday, Birham-Pasa Iuseim (44-46 kg), Ionut Madalin Calugar (48 kg), Denis-Aurel Alexandrescu (50 kg) and Andreea-Timeea Tapu (75 kg) qualified for the semifinals.
Romania is participating with 24 athletes, 12 boys and 12 girls, in the European Under-17 Boxing Championships in Kienbaum, Germany, from 10 to 17 December, with the goal of winning one to two medals and securing one to two fifth-place finishes.
