A strategic collaboration between Romania and Hungary is needed, and Romania needs to have partnerships and neighbourhood policies with all the countries around it as well, the president of the UDMR (Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania) party Kelemen Hunor told Agerpres on Thursday. Kelemen referred to the need of developing the railway and road infrastructure in the area, with an emphasis on a high speed railway between Bucharest and Budapest.
According to the UDMR head, the Hungarian community in Romania must be a bridge between Bucharest and Budapest. "Romania is an important country in this area, and yet it needs partners, however, it needs regional cooperation, partnerships and neighbourhood policies with all the countries, with Bulgaria, with Serbia, with Hungary, with Ukraine (...) Moldova is a particular case we should speak about honestly, in all its depth, it is an extremely important relationship," Kelemen Hunor said.
In his opinion, the Romanian-Hungarian relations are getting normal. "I believe that Romania should think very seriously how to connect the large infrastructure, road and railway, to the West, to Central Europe, and how to maximize everything that can be maximized from this huge resource on the long term," the UDMR president concluded.
