The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose slightly in August to 5.9%, up by 0.1 percentage points compared to the previous month, with the estimated number of unemployed persons reaching 481,000, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Thursday.
The unemployment rate among men exceeded that of women by 0.7 percentage points (with values of 6.2% for men and 5.5% for women).
'The high level of youth unemployment (aged 15-24), recorded at 23.5% during the April-June 2025 period, remains a point of concern,' the INS highlighted.
For adults aged 25-74, the unemployment rate for August 2025 was estimated at 4.7% (5% for men and 4.5% for women). Unemployed individuals in this age group accounted for 75.7% of the total estimated number of unemployed persons in August 2025.
