The University of Bucharest will award the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Professor András Sajó from Hungary during a ceremony that will take place on Wednesday, in recognition of his scientific activity, the higher education institution announced.
A professor at the Central European University in Vienna and a senior researcher at the CEU Democracy Institute in Budapest, Professor András Sajó is internationally recognized for his contributions to comparative constitutional law, political theory, and legal sociology.
Judge at the European Court of Human Rights between 2009 and 2017, Professor András Sajó has been a member of the Facebook Oversight Board since 2020, an independent body composed of specialists in law, communication, and internet regulation, whose purpose is to monitor the application of standards regarding freedom of speech on the platform.
His academic activity includes publishing reference works such as the monograph 'Limiting Government' (CEU Press, 1999) and 'Constitutional Sentiments' (Yale University Press, 2011). His most recent volume, 'Ruling by Cheating' (Cambridge University Press, 2021), explores the contemporary challenges facing democracy. Additionally, Professor András Sajó is the coordinator of the influential 'Oxford Handbook of Comparative Constitutional Law'.
