Chair of Save Romania Union (USR) Dominic Fritz has praised Environment Minister Diana Buzoianu for her "prompt, firm and transparent" response to the Paltinu Dam crisis, accusing PSD of politically exploiting the suffering of hundreds of thousands of residents.

The USR leader accused the Social Democratic Party (PSD) of "politically exploiting" the suffering of hundreds of thousands of people.

"They have again targeted the courageous Minister Diana Buzoianu, but in doing so they reveal themselves. The way PSD is using the suffering of hundreds of thousands of people for political gain is not only cynical but brazen. In two counties, local institutions that failed miserably were led by their own people. Nepotism and cronies, travelling in luxury planes while leaving water infrastructure to fall apart! The consequence is brutal: over 100,000 people without running water. A crisis not born from an unexpected storm, but from corruption, incompetence and longstanding complicity," Fritz wrote on Facebook.

According to him, Diana Buzoianu did exactly "what a leader should do": she activated crisis cells for rapid response, sent in the control corps, and worked directly with ministry teams to find solutions.

"She reacted promptly, firmly and transparently - even though she was lied to by politicised local structures. Since entering the Ministry of Environment, Diana has had no easy days. She launched the Romsilva reform, shook up institutional networks, scrutinised abuses and demanded transparency. She appointed interim directors with no party affiliation and opened competitions for positions. She did exactly what the system cannot tolerate: she broke the chain of privileges. That is why she is being fiercely attacked," Dominic Fritz said.

In his view, the "attacks" against Diana Buzoianu are also intended to "sabotage" USR candidate Catalin Drula's campaign for Bucharest City Hall.

"The attacks come at a time when USR is under assault. The stakes are multiple: to distract attention from their own corruption, to sabotage Catalin Drula"s campaign, to hit President Dan by ricochet. But above all, to discredit the very idea that Romania must and can be reformed and cleaned up. That is why I thank you for your solidarity with Diana Buzoianu, Catalin Drula, Radu Miruta and Oana Toiu in these days. We are sending a clear signal: we will not abandon the fight," Dominic Fritz said.
