Save Romania Union (USR) President Dan Barna said on Tuesday that to the extent to which the USR principles would be assumed by a liberal premier, his party is ready to support a prime minister from the National Liberal Party (PNL).
He said that the principles of the party he leads are largely shared by liberals.
"To the extent to which these principles, which I know most liberal colleagues support, will be assumed by such a prime minister, obviously we are ready to support him," said Barna when asked at Realitatea TV if USR would support a liberal prime minister.
He added that USR is also willing to support a technocrat premier, but believes that early elections are the solution.
"Early elections are the solution, because the current structure of Parliament makes such an alternative difficult (...) The stakes for Romania are finding a non-PSD solution," said Dan Barna.
"Our position will be to not support any premier from the PSD-ALDE (Social Democratic Party - Alliance of Liberals and Democrats) coalition, but unfortunately for Romania it will be just opening a public bet on how many weeks until the next government crisis in Romania. Any prime minister, except for Liviu Dragnea, who cannot be a prime minister, will end up in a conflict, will be dismissed, because this is play in which we have been living in Romania for a year," said Dan Barna.
The USR leader believes that the current majority is "toxic to Romania" and for one year it "has been blocking the state".
"This is what we will demand tomorrow from the President, to appoint a non-PSD premier. (...) And if this prime minister assumes a government that includes the four priorities that we have mentioned today - the principle of public offices without law offenders, the annulment of the laws of Justice, the electoral reform with the return to the election of mayors in two rounds and amending the tax revolution - we will support such a government," Barna said.
