'A major fire is ongoing this evening on Hobita Alley in Sector 2, at a refrigeration warehouse and several annexes. The massive smoke emissions are affecting the entire Capital. Air quality monitoring stations in the affected area have recorded significant exceedances in particle concentrations (PM10 and PM2.5). At station B16 - Bd. The most affected areas are: Mega Mall - Fantanica - Armenian Cemetery, where the smoke is dense and toxic,' the ministry wrote in a press release posted on its Facebook page on Tuesday night.

The Ministry of Environment, in coordination with the Ministry of Health and the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU), issued recommendations for the population in the affected areas: avoiding outdoor movement in affected areas; keeping windows and doors closed; shutting off ventilation and air conditioning systems that could bring smoke inside; if going outside is absolutely necessary, protecting the nose and mouth with damp cloths; vulnerable individuals (children, the elderly, and those with respiratory or heart conditions) should strictly avoid exposure; and in case of respiratory discomfort, dial 112 immediately.
'The Ministry of Environment, together with the Bucharest County Environmental Agency and the National Environmental Guard, is continuously monitoring air quality. The mobile auto-laboratory has been deployed to the Vatra Luminoasa area to collect additional real-time data,' the press release also mentioned.
