Animal health authorities of the north-eastern county of Botosani are drawing attention to an aggressive evolution of African swine fever in several settlements in the county.

Director of the Animal Health and Food Safety Directorate (DSVSA) Teodor Harabagiu reports that on Friday alone, 15 dead wild boars were identified on a single hunting ground in Botosani, located on the border with Ukraine.

"We have several hunting grounds where African swine fever evolves aggressively. To give an example, on Friday 15 dead wild boars were found on a hunting ground, which were buried according to the legislation," Harabagiu told AGERPRES on Monday.

He also said that since the beginning of 2025, the bodies of 38 wild boars with African swine fever have been found. Another, who was shot during a hunting trip, tested positive for the virus.

At the same time, five outbreaks of African swine fever in domestic pigs have been reported so far this year in Botosani.
