The West University of Timisoara (UVT) will open a European education centre, managed under the patronage of the European Parliament (EP), within the framework of the partnership opened alongside the vice-president of the EU legislative forum, Romanian MEP Nicu Stefanuta.

UVT Rector, Marilen Pirtea, said on Friday that there will be a blue flag space next to the Romanian national flag, where information and communication projects on the agenda of the European institutions will be carried out.

"In this space, students and pupils will be able to carry out volunteer projects, to propose ideas and solutions to everything that concerns them, and later even to carry out internships and experience exchanges in Brussels and Strasbourg, in EP projects dedicated to European civic and political education. The West University of Timisoara thus becomes the first higher education institution in Timisoara that realizes a concrete bridge and a permanent link with the European Parliament," rector Marilen Pirtea was quoted as saying in a press release of the higher education institution.

The decision was announced at a debate on the present and future of European society, which took place on Friday at UVT, an event held under the theme "European values and civic involvement", which was attended by MEP Nicu Stefanuta.

On the occasion of this meeting, the UVT reaffirmed yet again its commitment to the promotion of democratic values, civic education and active involvement in community life, offering especially to young people a useful context for reflection and exchange of ideas about what it means to be a European citizen today.
