The Wizz Air aircraft that operated the Brasov - Luton flight was diverted to Cluj-Napoca due to a possible bird impact upon departure from Brasov, and is currently undergoing a thorough inspection, the airline's representatives announced on Tuesday.

"Wizz Air confirms that flight W9 5400 from Brasov to London Luton was diverted to Cluj-Napoca airport. The flight crew reported a possible bird impact upon departure from Brasov and, following standard operating procedures, decided to divert the aircraft to Cluj-Napoca. The aircraft landed normally at Cluj-Napoca airport. All passengers were disembarked and are currently being assisted by our ground operations partners. The aircraft is undergoing a thorough inspection. Once operational, it will be returned to service. Wizz Air apologizes for any inconvenience and emphasizes that the safety of passengers, crew and aircraft is its top priority," the airline said.
Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport informed on Tuesday afternoon that a Wizz Air plane operating flight no. W9 5400 on the Brasov - Luton route requested an emergency landing at Cluj Airport, following damage to the aircraft's fuselage.
"On board the Airbus 321N aircraft there were 221 passengers, 5 infants and 7 crew members, and the amount of fuel at the time of landing was 10 tonnes. The Emergency Plan was activated, and the fire brigades of Cluj International Airport acted quickly, moving in the vicinity of the runway, being prepared to intervene until the arrival of the crews from the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations. Four special vehicles and three ambulances arrived at Cluj International Airport shortly before the aircraft landed," the airport informed.
According to the cited source, the aircraft landed safely at Cluj International Airport, with no intervention from firefighters or doctors from the ambulances that arrived on site.
"Air traffic at Cluj Airport was not affected, with all flights operating as scheduled. Passengers were disembarked safely, and airline representatives and Cluj International Airport staff are providing all the support passengers need. Following the incident, a specialist team is carrying out a technical inspection of the aircraft, with company representatives deciding whether the flight will be carried out with the same aircraft or the passengers will be taken over by another airline aircraft," the airport said.
