In a world facing polarisation, crises and uncertainty, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement remains a point of balance and trust - a global network anchored in local action, says Camelia Sucu, chair of the Romanian Red Cross.

"Today is about those who, in every corner of the world, choose to get involved, to stay close and to bring relief when it is the hardest. Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers and employees are where they are needed - discreetly, with dignity and with an open heart. In a world facing polarisation, crises and uncertainty, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement remains a point of balance and trust - a global network anchored in local action," Camelia Sucu wrote in a social media post on Thursday.

On World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, May 8, she thanked those who are part of this great humanitarian family.

"We keep close to people and keep our direction through the seven fundamental principles that define us: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, volunteerism, unity and universality. On behalf of the Romanian Red Cross, I would like to express my thanks to those who are part of this great humanitarian family. I thank those who, day after day, choose to remain on the side of good, without waiting for recognition. We choose humanity. Always."
