The wrestler Catalina Axente, injured on Saturday, in the round of 16 of the 76 kg category, suffered a cervical trauma and was rushed to the hospital, the head of the medical team of Team Romania, Dan Tanase, said, told Agerpres.
"She has a cervical trauma, but she moves her fingers, her legs ... We are going to the hospital," physician Dan Tanase said.
Axente needed medical attention after her opponent, the American Kennedy Alexis Blades, threw her on her back, and the Romanian hit her neck hard.
The doctors gave her first aid on the mattress and immobilized her neck with a collar. The Romanian athlete was conscious, but left the hall on a stretcher, to the applause of the audience.

Catalina Axente, 28, double bronze medalist at the European Championships (2020, 2023), lost before the limit to a 20-year-old athlete (0-11).
Romania participated with five wrestlers at the 2024 Olympics, but none of them reached the fight for medals.
Romania obtained its last Olympic medal in wrestling in 2016, in Rio, through the naturalized athlete of Russian origin Albert Saritov (category 97 kg, freestyle wrestling).
