Yellow warning for snow and strong winds across nearly half the country

The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued yellow weather warnings on Monday for heavy precipitation, strong winds and blizzard conditions, valid on Tuesday and Wednesday in almost half of the country.

According to meteorologists, between 17 February, 10:00 and 18 February, 14:00, significant precipitation is expected in southern Oltenia, Muntenia, Dobrogea and southern Moldavia.

During the day, mixed precipitation (rain, sleet and snow) will occur in Oltenia and Muntenia, rain in Dobrogea and snowfall in Moldova, while snowfall will prevail overnight. Precipitation amounts of 25-30 litres per square metre are expected, with isolated totals exceeding 40 litres per square metre. Snow cover is forecast to reach an average depth of 10-30 cm, while wind gusts will reach 50-70 km/h, causing blizzard conditions and reducing visibility to below 100 metres.

During the same period, in the Southern and Curvature Carpathians, wind gusts are expected to reach 70-90 km/h, with blizzard conditions and visibility dropping below 100 metres.

Snow cover in these areas is expected to average 10-20 cm, with a water equivalent of 15-25 litres per square metre.
