Around 31 kilogrammes of cannabis were discovered by border police officers in Arad on an Italian national travelling by coach, following checks carried out together with the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) prosecutors.
According to a press release issued by the Arad Border Police, the 32-year-old Italian was placed in pre-trial detention on Monday by the Arad Tribunal.
"This morning (Monday - ed.), the defendant was caught in flagrante by border police officers at the point of entry into the country, while in possession, as a passenger on an international transport route from Spain to Romania, of approximately 31 kilogrammes of cannabis. The high-risk drug, intended for sale and divided into 31 packages, was found in the defendant's two trolley suitcases," the release said.
The man is being investigated for international drug trafficking and domestic trafficking of high-risk drugs.
