Over 100 high school students and students will simulate the decision-making process in Parliament, from Friday to Sunday, to learn how a country's laws are initiated and voted on.

The educational project "Youth Parliament" has reached its 13th edition, being organized by the Pro Democracy Association and the Romanian Club for Voluntourism Association, together with the District 1 City Hall, the Hanns Seidel Foundation - Romania and the Chamber of Deputies.

The event aims to offer young people the most authentic experience of how a country's laws are initiated and voted on, informs a press release from the Pro Democracy Association sent to AGERPRES.

"Thus, the simulation of the decision-making process through young people, in parliamentary groups and committees, has as its main objective the promotion of democratic values and the important role that young people play in a democracy. The project also wants to familiarize participants with the methods of debates in parliamentary groups, committees and in plenary, offering young people the framework for holding debates related to topics on the public agenda. Due to the current context that Romanian society is going through, we consider it necessary to educate the young generation in civic spirit," explained the representatives of Pro Democratia.

According to the organization, involving young people in the decision-making process at the highest level is very important in a society.

The selection of candidates was made, as in previous editions, based on the score obtained based on a legislative proposal with which the young people registered for the project, and, following the selection process, the organizers established the following committees for the simulation: Committee on Education; Committee on Foreign Policy; Committee on Youth and Sports; Committee on Health and Family, the press release states.

The event will begin with the opening session in the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies, with the mayor of Sector 1, George-Cristian Tuţă, the director of the Central and Eastern Europe Division of the Hanns Seidel Foundation, Benjamin Bobbe, and the honorary president of the Pro Democracy Association, Cristian Pîrvulescu, being invited.

The Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies, Geanina Serban, and the President of the Pro Democracy Association, Viviana Anghel-Lukacsi, will also participate.

The event is part of the project "Civic Leaders - involving young people in local public life in Sector 1", implemented by the Pro Democracy Association with the support of the Sector 1 City Hall and part of the project with the same name - "Youth Parliament Simulation".
