Border police officers in Calafat discovered on Tuesday, inside a Bulgarian lorry, 15 foreign nationals who did not possess the necessary documents to travel within the Schengen area and who had attempted to enter Romania illegally.
'On Tuesday, at around 7:25 a.m., in the car park near the Calafat-Vidin toll station, border police officers from the Giurgiu Territorial Border Police Inspectorate, Calafat Border Police Sector, together with Bulgarian border police officers, stopped for checks an articulated lorry registered in Bulgaria. It was driven by a 52-year-old Bulgarian citizen travelling on the Bulgaria-Czechia route and, according to the documents, transporting ferrous materials,' a release the General Inspectorate of Border Police sent to AGERPRES reads.
During the inspection of the vehicle, 15 Moroccan nationals were found inside the semi-trailer, who did not hold valid travel documents and did not meet the legal conditions for entry into Romania.
'In view of the findings, the 15 foreign nationals, the driver and the lorry were taken over by the Bulgarian authorities for the continuation of the investigations,' the source added.
