The 2 Mai Shipyard in Mangalia now has clear opportunities for long-term development, which will keep people's jobs and the shipyard functional, the Minister of Economy, Bogdan Ivan says after representatives of the Navalistul Union announced protests in Bucharest for Friday.

In a post on his Facebook page, the relevant minister specifies that, in February of this year, he received the unionists at the Ministry of Economy, listened to the dissatisfaction of the union representatives and discussed with the leaders of the companies involved.

"Through decisive actions, we have found concrete solutions to continue work at the Mangalia shipyard: over 800 active employees will receive their salaries in two installments: 60% of the amount will be paid between May 12-16, and the remaining 40% at the end of the month, between May 26 and 30. We have identified 13 additional ship repair projects, which will begin immediately, to support the company's financial recovery - we will thus cover operational costs and ensure the resumption of outstanding payments starting in August. We have already signed a repair contract for 4 container ships of the Mediterranean Shipping Company, a world leader in maritime transport. Tomorrow morning, I will receive the union representatives again at the ministry. We now have clear opportunities for long-term development, which will keep people's jobs and the shipyard functional," Bogdan Ivan wrote.

The Navalist Union (SLN) will organize two protest actions on Friday, in front of the Ministry of Economy and in front of the Government, in the context of the worsening situation at Damen Shipyards Mangalia (DSMa), the largest shipyard in Romania, according to a statement from the unionists.

The unionists demand urgent action from the Romanian state for the recovery of the shipyard in Mangalia, which is insolvent and has had its activity temporarily suspended since June 2024.

SLN urgently requests the full payment of outstanding salaries, real and immediate government support for financing the shipyard's activity, the conclusion of a new association contract with a serious and competent investor, the development and implementation of a clear strategy for saving and relaunching this strategic objective.
