The draft budget for 2026 is to be published and approved by the Government in mid-February, and in the second half of the month it will be debated and voted on in Parliament, announced on Monday the Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare.
"Today, together with colleagues from the governing coalition, we agreed on a clear and realistic calendar for the approval of the state budget for 2026. In a few days, we will approve the budget ceilings, followed by consultations with all ministries. Also during this period, we will finalize the fiscal-budgetary strategy for the current year and the macroeconomic report. In mid-February, the draft budget will be published and approved by the Government, and in the second half of February the budget will be debated and voted on in Parliament," Nazare wrote on his Facebook account.
According to the cited source, this calendar was agreed on Monday by all parties in the coalition, "an important alignment, which ensures a common understanding of the rhythm and stages of budget approval".
"We also discussed the package of measures for the administration, essential for the construction of the budget, as well as the continuation of economic recovery measures. These will be reflected both in the 2026 budget and through distinct public policy packages, built in a balanced manner, based on the proposals of all coalition members. Also today, we discussed the situation of budget execution for 2025, at the level of each ministry. We are closing the year with an overall, good execution - with over 90% implementation degree for most ministries. A credible budget starts from a rigorous analysis of the previous year's execution, in order to correct what did not work and consolidate what gave results", the Minister of Finance pointed out.
Nazare also said that the 2026 budget must be a correct budget, reflecting the real level of expenses, without overestimating revenues.
"Based on this analysis but also on the experience of previous years, the budget for 2026 must be, above all, a correct budget: to reflect the real level of expenses, without overestimating revenues. Only on the premises of fairness and responsibility can we project real growth and concrete results, for all. And the central priority of this year remains economic recovery - through the best possible absorption of available European funds, complemented by programs financed from the state budget and sustainable solutions for relaunching and accelerating investments", the Minister of Finance also wrote on the social media page.
