The beginning of 2026 comes with a fragile balance between hope and uncertainty, with 39% of Romanians adopting a neutral attitude towards 2026, while 27% expecting the worst, according to the latest survey conducted by market research company Reveal Marketing Research.
"39% of Romanians do not adopt either an optimistic or a pessimistic perspective regarding the year 2026, this attitude highlighting the uncertainty they feel about the future. 34% of Romanians are optimistic about the year 2026 and believe that a better life awaits them in the new year, to a significantly greater extent among those aged 25-34 (41%). On the other hand, 27% of respondents expressed their pessimism regarding the new year", the cited survey reads.
Regarding the expectations of Romanians at the beginning of the new year, 35% of them are optimistic about improving their personal financial situation. At the opposite pole, the level of pessimism reaches the highest values regarding the reduction in corruption (55%), the decrease in inflation (52%) and the improvement of the country's economic situation (49%).
As to personal and family intentions, 17% of Romanians intend to get married or get engaged in 2026, especially young people aged 25-34 (27%). In the same area, 19% of respondents already have a child on the way or intend to have a child in the new year, to a significantly greater extent those aged 25-44 (30%).
In terms of career and professional area, 33% of Romanians intend to change their job in 2026. More precisely, 21% of Romanians want a new employer, and 12% want to open a business. The percentage of those who intend to change their job is increasing by 6% compared to last year.
Evaluating the level of satisfaction with the different aspects of daily life, the report shows that Romanians are most satisfied with the interpersonal relationships they have with family (74%), with close people (69%) and with romantic relationships (61%). As a trend, people with incomes below 3,000 RON declare themselves to be less satisfied with romantic relationships (42%). The lowest satisfaction score was recorded for the current financial situation (40%), and the most dissatisfied with it are mature people over 55 years old (34%).
The top New Year's resolutions are similar to last year's, with most Romanians wanting to spend more time with family (30%), eat healthier (29%) and travel more (27%).
"The desire to adopt a healthier lifestyle is also visible in the fact that 18% want to lose weight, and 12% want to be more active/go to the gym. Compared to last year, the share of those who want more free time for themselves is increasing (19% compared to 16% last year) and of those who want to develop new skills (16% compared to 12% last year)," reveals the survey conducted by the independent market research company.
The Reveal Marketing Research survey aimed to find out more about the expectations and hopes of Romanians related to the year 2026 and how they have evolved compared to last year.
