The National Institute of Public Health (INSP) announced on Friday that, between 2 June and 23 October, 49 cases of West Nile virus infection were recorded in Romania.
Of these, 41 are confirmed cases and eight are probable cases. According to the INSP, during the same period two deaths caused by West Nile virus infection were reported.
The cases were reported in: Bucharest (16), and in the counties of Alba (1), Braila (5), Botosani (1), Cluj (2), Dolj (1), Dambovita (1), Galati (6), Ilfov (4), Iasi (2), Prahova (1), Sibiu (1), Salaj (1), Timis (3), Teleorman (1), Tulcea (1), Valcea (1), and Vrancea (1).
The cases involve 22 people aged 70-79, 10 aged 60-69, eight aged 50-59, two aged 40-49, four aged over 80, two aged 30-39, and one aged 10-19.
