The police received 665 reports of electoral incidents in the last 24 hours, 14% of which are being verified, but there were no cases of incidents involving the security of polling stations, spokesperson of the Ministry of Interior (MAI) Monica Dajbog said on Sunday morning.

The police enforced 97 fines, worth more than 100,000 lei, and 242 warnings.

In addition, criminal cases were filed for 107 possible offences.

According to the MAI official, the voting process began in normal conditions throughout the country.

"Approximately 42,800 police, gendarmes, firefighters, border police and workers from other structures are mobilised throughout the country to protect polling stations and maintain public safety both in the vicinity of polling stations and within the localities," the source said.

Teams made up of MAI employees have the mission to conduct emergency investigations in case of reports of non-compliance with the law in the electoral context.

More than 1,600 police officers are carrying out traffic activities and checks, including checks on how people are transported. Air support will be provided by IGAv aircraft.
