A total of 81,174 cases of respiratory infections - clinical flu, acute upper respiratory tract infections and pneumonia - were reported in the week of 1-7 December, the National Centre for Surveillance and Control of Communicable Diseases within the National Institute of Public Health reported on Thursday.
There were 28.2% more cases than in the previous week (63,321) and 16.8% fewer cases than in the same week of the previous season (97,598). The decrease compared with the average of 89,177 cases recorded in the past seasons (2018-2025 excluding the pandemic seasons) was 9%.
During the reporting period, 3,018 cases of clinical flu were recorded nationwide, compared with 794 cases in the same week of the previous season and 1,504 recorded in the preceding week.
Since the beginning of the season, 80 laboratory-confirmed cases of flu have been reported: 51 with unsubtyped influenza A virus, 21 with AH3, 5 with AH1 and 3 with influenza B virus.
By 7 December, 1,198,569 flu vaccinations had been recorded in the National Electronic Vaccination Register (1,175,429 for population groups eligible for reimbursement on a subsidised basis), including 5,488 vaccinations carried out in authorised community pharmacies.
