Romania is a strong and reliable NATO ally, and the Strategic Partnership with the U.S. is a solid one, the Speaker of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean, who is in the United States, at the Interparliamentary Security Forum, said on Wednesday.
"I spoke at the Parliamentary Security Forum, organized in the U.S. Congress, in the presence of representatives of NATO countries, parliamentarians, experts, former heads of state and heads of institutions with an important role in ensuring security and defense such as the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. From the speech I gave, I leave here a few ideas on which I insisted. Romania is at the intersection of history and geography, and our position on the border of the Eastern Flank makes us responsible for defending our own security but also the security of the entire Alliance", wrote Mircea Abrudean on Facebook.
The Senate Speaker conveyed, on this occasion, that Romania would increase investments in the national defense industry, using European instruments and the strong partnership with the U.S., capitalizing on the most advanced technologies.
"We are committed to increasing the defense contribution to 5% of GDP by 2035 and we are maintaining this path. For Romania, the strategic partnership with the US anchors national security, moreover, the defense strategy adopted by Parliament includes the U.S. as an irreplaceable pillar of our security", added Abrudean.
He emphasized that Romania guarantees defense in the Black Sea and maintains strong neighbors.
"We guarantee defense in the Black Sea region. We maintain safe skies, having legislation that allows us to act firmly in the event of drone incidents and illegal airspace violations. We maintain safe seas, because together with Bulgaria and Turkey, we launched the Black Sea Mine Countermeasures Task Force. We maintain strong neighbors. We support Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova," Abrudean also said.
Senate Speaker Mircea Abrudean is participating, from February 3 to 6, at the Interparliamentary Security Forum organized in Washington DC, U.S.
