Mircea Abrudean, the interim president of the Senate, believes that Romania's defence is being strengthened by the national security bills adopted on Wednesday in the upper chamber of Parliament, as the decision-making body.

"We are strengthening Romania's defence! Today I have chaired the plenary session in which two essential laws for national security were voted and adopted, designed to strengthen Romania's defence capability and deter any threat. As PNL [the National Liberal Party] has pledged, we are keeping our word and putting Romanians' security first. The first law regulates the shooting down of unauthorized drones that violate Romanian airspace. The second law allows the Romanian Army to collaborate more efficiently with NATO partners on the national territory, in missions and military operations carried out in peacetime," Abrudean wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

According to Abrudean, "Romania's security is not a priority" for the senators of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), S.O.S. Romania, and the Party of Young People (POT).

"Unfortunately, the AUR, SOS and POT senators have once again demonstrated that they are not true patriots and Romania's security is not a priority for them. By their attitude they have shown that they serve other interests, not those of Romanians. Romania's security is not negotiable," added Abrudean.

On Wednesday, the senators adopted the draft law regulating the peacetime conduct of military missions and operations on the territory of the Romanian state and voted for the draft law on the control of the use of national airspace, respectively for the regulation of measures in this regard.
