Additional European funds granted to local action groups

The local action groups (GAL) has been granted additional funds to implement projects that focus on community development strategies, so that the degree of contracting and absorption of the received funds decreased.

The president of GAL Dobrogea de nord Tulcea, Dan Dragan, told AGERPRES that the group he leads received approximately 600,000 euros for projects in the administrative-territorial units it serves, the city of Isaccea and the communes of Smardan, I.C. Bratianu, Grindu, Greci, Jijila, Vacareni, Luncavita, Isaccea, Niculitel, Somova, Ceatalchioi and Pardina.

"The degree of contracting was, until the arrival of the transition funds, of 98pct, and now it has obviously decreased. The degree of payments was 70pct, and it is starting to decrease. But we will draw the line in 2025," said the president of GAL Dobrogea de Nord Tulcea.

He also said that at the beginning of the 2014-2020 financial year, the group received, based on the development strategy, 2.8 million euros, but following the additions, the budget has now reached 3.6 million euros.

"Now we are drawing up the financing guidelines for the beneficiaries, so that the transition funds reach the population," said Dragan.

Other LAGs from Tulcea county also received transition funds.

The Danube Delta LAG, a group that serves the communes of Bestepe, Nufaru, Mahmudia, Murighiol, Valea Nucarilor, Sfantu Gheorghe and the city of Sulina, received around 500,000 euros.

"For the next period, we want to make camps for children, based on some very well-established criteria aimed at poverty and isolation (of the families from which the children come - editor's note)," stated the president of the Danube Delta GAL, George Rosca.

The GALs are entities made up of public and private actors that serve a territory identified by the same specific population problems. Based on the needs identified in the respective territory, they draw up development strategies that can receive non-reimbursable financing through the LEADER programme, an EU community initiative that appeared after the reform of the structural funds in 1989.

In Tulcea county, there are five such groups.
