AgriMin to participate in Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting in Brussels
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Florin-Ionut Barbu will attend the Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting in Brussels on Monday.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Agriculture, the agenda of the meeting will include important topics for Romania's agricultural sector, including fishing opportunities for 2024, conclusions on the long-term vision for the EU's rural areas until 2040, the current state of play of the proposed regulation on new genomic techniques (NGT), forestry
The Council will hold an exchange of views on the basis of the presentation by the Commission of its proposals establishing fishing opportunities in the Atlantic and the North Sea and in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.
In a public session, agriculture ministers will seek to agree conclusions on the long-term vision for EU rural areas.
The Spanish Presidency will provide information on the state of play of ongoing work on the proposal for a regulation on plants derived from certain new genomic techniques and food and feed products. Under this item, the Croatian delegation is also expected to provide information.
During a public session, the Commission will brief ministers on the implementation of the EU Forest Strategy 2030, the Austrian delegation will provide information on the "For the Forest" group, and the German delegation will inform European officials of support measures for partner countries in relation to deforestation.
In addition, also in public session, the Italian delegation will brief the Council on the role of farmers in ensuring the sustainability of rural areas, and the French delegation will brief on a partial implementation of GAEC 8 for 2024.
