The album "The Holocaust against the Roma - an Album of Memory and Gratitude", a tribute to Roma culture, art, spirituality and a way to create new bridges of communication, was launched on Friday by the Department for Interethnic Relations of the Romanian Government, at the Gaudeamus Radio Romania Book Fair taking place in Bucharest, Dec 4-7.

"With the help of the Roma artists, through their work, we tried to bring a new approach to this drama of the Roma community and the entire nation, if we may say so. Thus, we included here a series of contemporary Roma artists, whether we are talking about poetry, or about visual art, even dramatic art, and also memoirs of Holocaust survivors," undersecretary of state within the Department for Interethnic Relations of the Romanian Government, Dincer Geafer, stated on Friday.

The official said that the album, a reissue, was released two years ago in a version that combined Romanian and Romani. The new multilingual edition, published with the support of the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) in Vienna, is available in Romanian, Romani, English and German.

"We want to bring some comfort to the victims of this Holocaust, whether they are Roma or part of other ethnic communities," said the undersecretary of state.

Having become a tradition, the presence of minority stands at the Gaudeamus Book Fair, united under the logo of this department, offers this year too an image of the cultural diversity in the Romanian space, at the fair exhibiting the Jewish, Ruthenian, Bulgarian, Polish, Croatian, Tatar, Italian, Macedonian, Lipovan Russian, Serbian and Greek communities.
