The National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) has launched "ANA", an intelligent virtual assistant designed to inform taxpayers about their tax obligations, initially available in users' Private Virtual Space (SPV) accounts and later accessible via the institution's website, according to an ANAF press release.
"'Hello! I am ANA' - this is how the new chatbot created by the National Agency for Fiscal Administration introduces itself. It is an intelligent virtual assistant designed to help taxpayers quickly obtain general information about tax obligations. In the initial testing phase, the ANA chatbot will be available only in users' SPV accounts, and will subsequently be accessible directly from the institutional portal www.anaf.ro. The chatbot is part of the project 'Development of current remote services (electronic or telephone) through new functionalities and/or the creation of new services - ANAF e-Services', included in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, Component C8 - Tax reform and pension system reform, Reform 1 - Reform of the National Agency for Fiscal Administration through digitalisation, Investment 1 - Increasing voluntary taxpayer compliance through the development of digital services," reads the press release.
The institution noted that the launch of the chatbot marks a new concrete stage in the modernisation of the tax administration, with ANAF aiming through this project to improve the way it delivers remote services and to reduce the effort required of taxpayers to fulfil their tax obligations.
"As a technology-based tool, at the time of launch ANA will have only a partial set of answers to users' questions. Going forward, the chatbot will undergo a continuous update process and will improve its performance as it interacts with users, based on the questions they ask. The system develops and improves continuously with each issue or question addressed, and through every interaction with users, ANA will constantly enhance its ability to provide accurate and relevant information for taxpayers. The more users access the chatbot and ask questions, the more precise, useful and better adapted to taxpayers' real needs the virtual assistant will become," ANAF explained.
According to the cited source, the chatbot ANA will provide, in the first phase, general information on the tax obligations of individuals who earn income from renting personal assets and/or from independent activities. As the system accumulates data and experience through real interactions, the areas covered will expand, significantly simplifying communication between taxpayers and the tax administration. Thus, ANA will in the future be able to answer an increasingly wide range of tax-related questions, simplifying access to tax information for all taxpayers.
"ANAF encourages taxpayers to interact actively with ANA and to provide ongoing feedback, thereby contributing to the continuous improvement of the system. Each question asked represents a direct contribution to building a more efficient digital public service. The ANA chatbot is an important step towards the digitalisation of the tax administration and reflects ANAF's commitment to transforming into a modern, open institution focused on quality public services and adapted to the digital era. The institution is pursuing the modernisation and digitalisation of public services, the reduction of taxpayers' administrative burden, and increased transparency and accessibility of tax information," the press release adds.
