ANM issues cold weather alert, mixed precipitation, ice across country until Wednesday

Extremely cold weather, frost especially at night and in the mornings, mixed precipitation, ice and wind gusts are forecast across the country until next Wednesday, according to the National Meteorological Administration (ANM).

Thus, the forecast published on Friday shows that the weather will turn extremely cold on Friday and Saturday, initially in the eastern half of the country and later in the rest of the country, with frost at night and in the mornings in most areas. Minimum temperatures will generally range between -18 and -8 degrees Celsius, while in northern and central Moldavia frost will persist during the day, with temperatures between -14 and -10 d egrees.

On Friday and Friday night into Saturday, there will be temporary precipitation, mainly rain in Banat and locally in Crisana, mixed precipitation in the Western Carpathians and Transylvania, and mostly snow in Oltenia and small areas of Muntenia. Ice will form and conditions for black ice are expected.

Winds will strengthen temporarily in southern Banat and the adjacent mountain areas, as well as in the south-eastern regions, with speeds generally between 40 and 60 km/h.

The severe cold weather warning is in effect from 10:00 on 16 January to 10:00 on 21 January.
