The anti-drone system is currently under discussion at technical and operational level, President Nicusor Dan stated on Thursday.
The head of state participated in the European Political Community meeting and, the day before, attended the informal European Council meeting.
"I can't give you any figures or details at this moment because the discussion about this drone system on the Eastern Flank and, more generally, how Europe defends itself against drones is still ongoing. As I mentioned, it is a technical and operational discussion taking place among defence ministers who meet much more frequently," he explained.
Nicusor Dan stated that the institutions discussing financial matters are the European Council and the European Commission.
Regarding a possible Romania-Ukraine collaboration in the drone industry, he stated: "What we have all learned from this war in Ukraine is that technology, especially drone technology, is advancing very rapidly. It is no longer just about having the money to buy existing technology, but about keeping pace with technological development for technology that didn't even exist in 2022, when the war began."
The head of state mentioned that currently there is expertise that "is not uniform among European countries and NATO members" regarding drones and, especially, defence against them.
"Among European countries, Ukraine obviously - because it is at war - currently has advanced technological capabilities. And Romania, like most European countries, wishes to enter into a cooperation with Ukraine, in a commercial negotiation that is mutually beneficial, to gain access to this technology," Nicusor Dan added.
