Five Afghan citizens, asylum seekers in Romania, have been caught trying to leave the country hidden in a cargo truck heading to Italy, at the Nadlac II Border Crossing Point, agerpres reports.
The truck was driven by a Romanian citizen and was transporting, according to the documents accompanying the goods, sanitary products on the Romania-Italy route.
"Following the thorough control of the means of transport, the border guards discovered, hidden in the cargo compartment of the semi-trailer, five foreign nationals. The persons were taken and transported to the border police headquarters for investigations. There they were found to be citizens of Afghanistan, asylum seekers in our country," reads a press release of the Arad Border Police, on Thursday.
Migrants risk being prosecuted for attempting to cross the state border illegally, and the investigation will also determine whether the driver was involved.
