Romania imported 59,369 tonnes of tomatoes in first nine months of 2017, amount almost similar to the one of 2016 (59,075 tonnes), while the exports were petty, merely 262.2 tonnes, according to the agri-food products trade balance browsed through by AGERPRES.
The value of the imports of fresh or refrigerated tomatoes in the first three quarters of 2017 exceeded EUR 65.46 million, up by 20pct as compared to the same period of 2016 when it parked at EUR 54.54 million.
According to the data released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR), the money from the tomatoes' exports to the intra- and extra-community markets has reached in the analysed period EUR 254,462, up by 47pct against EUR 173,053 recorded in the similar period of 2016, when 301.5 tonnes were exported.
The ministry announced that all tomatoes cultivators in protected areas will continue to benefit in 2018 by the de minimis aid scheme foreseen for this sector, which is EUR 3,000 per beneficiary per year.
