Alliance for Romanians' Union (AUR) Chairman George Simion is asking for the convocation of an extraordinary parliamentary session and announces that protests against the "train" ordinance will continue next week, demanding free elections and the continuation of elections starting with the second round, "for the respect of democracy."
"There has been no reaction from the government so far, no reaction from Klaus Iohannis. This means we will continue the internal and external pressure. We demand an extraordinary parliamentary session because, in January, Romanian MPs are on recess. There was more discussion about the political crisis and the coup d'etat in Romania in the European Parliament, an entire day, than in the Romanian Parliament. We will continue the protests. Throughout the week, there will be protests against the 'train' ordinance and for free elections and for the continuation of elections starting with the second round, for the respect of democracy (...). I ask you to join us so we can win this battle, which is not for one leader or another, but for democracy, for the rule of law, for freedom, and for our future as a country," George Simion is quoted as saying in a press release on Monday.
According to him, on Saturday, at 2:00 PM, there will be protests in every county in front of the Prefectures.
"On Saturday, at 2:00 PM, in every county, there will be protests in front of the Prefectures. We will continue, even on January 24, when it is the Union of the Romanian Principalities Day. We will be in Iasi in the first part of the day, then in Focsani," Simion conveyed.
The AUR leader also mentions that he will have a series of trips abroad, where he will meet with presidents, prime ministers and conservative leaders from Europe and America.
"I will have a series of foreign trips to Brussels, Belgrade, and Washington, after my trips to Rome and Warsaw. I will meet with presidents, prime ministers, conservative leaders from Europe and America, to have their support. The Poles asked me how I see the way out, what the solution is. I asked them how you get out of a dictatorship, because since December 6, we've been in a dictatorship," Simion added.
