The National Bank of Romania, as administrator of the SaFIR financial instruments depository and settlement system, becomes a member of the European Central Securities Depository Association (ECSDA) starting with January 1, 2026, according to a press release from the bank, inform Agerpres.

ECSDA represents 40 national and international central depositories of financial instruments from 36 European countries.

The association offers its members a forum for the exchange of views and the development of projects of mutual interest, promoting a constructive dialogue between the central depository community, European public authorities and other stakeholders, with the aim of contributing to an efficient and modern post-trade infrastructure for European financial markets.

SaFIR is the system for registering and settling government securities transactions (GSRS system). SaFIR is managed and operated by the National Bank of Romania and uses the SWIFT platform for transmitting settlement and registration messages.
