Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said on Thursday that improving consular services will remain a priority for the government in the coming period. He said he will insist on the opening of new consulates in Germany and France, whose operationalization has been delayed in recent years, as well as on the full implementation of digitalization, so that document issuance and scheduling times are reduced.

"This morning, having half an hour free, I paid an unannounced visit to the Romanian consulate in Brussels. For me, as prime minister, but also as a person, what Romania does through consular services for our communities abroad is a very important thing, because we have millions of Romanians and the interface of our country with these important communities, especially from European countries, are our consular services and our embassies. And I wanted to make sure that our services are running in good conditions," Bolojan said at a press conference in Brussels, agerpres reports.

He appreciated that, at least in the case of the Brussels consulate, the activity is carried out in an adequate space.

"We must ensure that all our consulates and all embassies operate in spaces where our Romanians or guests who cross the threshold of these consular services are treated fairly, quickly, in such a way that people feel respected," Ilie Bolojan also said.

The Prime Minister mentioned that improving consular services will remain a priority for the government in the coming period, adding that he will insist on opening new consulates in Germany or France, whose opening has been delayed in recent years.

"We will urge the improvement of consular services in the sense that the digitalization that was completed at the end of last year becomes operational in all consulates and to shorten the times for issuing documents, to also shorten the appointment times. In Brussels, the verified appointment times were from two days, to one or two days. So, very quickly," the prime minister also said.

According to the prime minister, more accessible programs with the public, simplification of programming procedures and a more active presence of consuls and embassy representatives at meetings with Romanian communities, including at churches and events organized by the diaspora, are being considered. Bolojan also mentioned the meeting he had with Romanian MEPs on Wednesday evening, with a view to synchronizing the positions of the European Parliament with Romania's priorities.

"I thank all the MEPs who participated in this meeting, both for the exchange of ideas and for the discussions we had, and I believe that every time a dignitary arrives in Brussels, out of respect for our teams of MEPs, in order to have convergent positions, such meetings are necessary," Bolojan also stated.
