Brasov City Hall has put into operation the four new snow groomers purchased at the end of last year for preparing the ski slopes in the Poiana Brasov skiing area and beginning in the weekend the floodlighting is also operational on two slopes - Bradului, for beginners, and Lupului inferior, for advanced skiers.
Brasov City Hall announced on Friday that slope preparation is carried out using 'some of the most powerful snow grooming machines in the world, specially designed for large, steep slopes and for difficult conditions,' which cost almost 9 million lei, agerpres reports.
Thanks to their outstanding technical specifications, blade width and lower fuel consumption, the time required for this operation is reduced, pollution is kept to a minimum and the safety of those operating these snow groomers is significantly increased.
'We have the most extensive ski area in Romania and we need to be competitive. To be competitive, you also need the necessary equipment in order to withstand competition, because other ski areas in Romania have also developed. In the end, people choose where it is better, where conditions are met and where there are quality services, and the people who work on maintaining the ski area must also have the necessary specialist equipment to do a good job,' Mayor George Scripcaru said, according to a City Hall press release.
The snow groomer model purchased last year by the Brasov municipality is equipped with 530-horsepower Daimler engines. The dimensions of the blade and the milling cutter are 9.47 metres and in the case of those fitted with an anchoring system and winch, the cable length is 1,200 metres.
Until this month, Brasov City Hall had six snow groomers, two purchased at the beginning of 2020 and the other four more than 15 years old.
As regards floodlighting, starting this weekend, every Friday and Saturday, winter sports enthusiasts will be able to ski until 20:00 on the Bradul and Lupului inferior slopes.
Also as of this weekend, experienced skiers will have access to the Subteleferic slope, which is homologated by the International Ski Federation and is used for national and international competitions.
