A 33-meter high Ferriswheel, a carousel with fairytale characters and an ice rink covering 660 square metres will be among the main attractions of the "West Side Christmas Market," a Christmas fair in Bucharest District 6's Drumul Taberei Park, told Agerpres.
According to the local city hall, the fair, organised by UNTOLD Universe together with the District 6 City Hall, the marketplace will have over 60 beautifully decorated booths, where visitors will be greeted with all kinds of products, goodies, and hand-made objects, and the park will be bedecked with lights.
The schedule of the fair includes music evenings, concerts and shows for the little ones. Admission is free.
"UNTOLD Universe presents West Side Christmas Market" will take place November 25 - December 27, in the dry lake basin, which will turn into a Santa village featuring and fairy-tale characters.
"As a mayor, you face the problem of how to make beautiful and quality events for your community, without spending money. I know that in the past the Bucharest City Hall spent millions and so did other city halls, town halls. Last year we managed to do such Christmas market, which we didn't spend a penny on. It was very successful and people enjoyed coming, but I wasn't happy with the level of quality. I've been to Christmas markets in Europe before, I love them and I want something of quality. We don't have the know-how, but we have the potential and the place, we don't want to spend money, we want to take in money or at least not end in the red. It's very difficult for a town hall to avoid costs, to turn a profit. So I proposed that this year we should not necessarily turn a profit, but increase quality. We are working with people who are good at big festivals, they are very good at promoting, at bringing in quality vendors, they are very good at organising such things. Untold Universe has never before organised a Christmas market, but the industry is the same. We are helping the organisers with everything they need, we don't leave them shoulder the entire burden. The fair will be self-financing; it will earn money for the city. Everything is thought out so that it turns out well. I am nervous! It's the first time that something like this is organised in Romania," says Mayor Ciprian Ciucu.
