Local data centres for AI computing and the development of infrastructure for artificial intelligence are the central themes of the DataCenter Forum 2026 event to be held today in Bucharest.

According to organisers, the conference will be attended, among others, Rod Evans - NVidia Vice President for EMEA, Mehdi Paryavi - President and CEO of the International Data Center Authority (IDCA), as well as Jonathan Berney - founder and managing partner of Accelerated Infrastructure Capital (AIC), agerpres reports.

"Starting this year, Romania is making significant progress in the development of infrastructure for artificial intelligence. At least two AI factories will become operational during the year, while several existing HPC centres have been expanded by integrating dedicated AI capabilities, based on architectures optimised for such type of computing. The two AI factories are located in the central and southern parts of the country and involve extensive collaborations between the public and private sectors, with total investments of over EUR 70 million. In both cases, the projects are aligned with European trends of AI factories", built as GPU-heavy infrastructures, including state-of-the-art AI supercomputers, HPC (high-performance computing) infrastructure, access to data, AI models and tools, as well as training and support programmes for companies, startups and the research community," according to event organiser Tema Energy.
