The premiere of The Eichmann Trial opera composed by Gil Shohat, featuring a libretto by renowned playwright Motti Lerner, based on his stage play of the same name, will be presented on March 30, on the stage of the Bucharest National Opera, informs a press release sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday.
According to the cited source, this cultural project aims to keep alive the memory of the past and inspire future generations in the spirit of empathy, tolerance and social responsibility, constituting an "essential history lesson" that we must learn to ensure a healthy evolution of the whole society.
Directed by Erwin Simsensohn, stage design by Dragos Buhagiar, musical direction by Daniel Jinga, with the participation of the Bucharest National Opera Chorus. Baritone Alexandru Constantin was cast in the role of Adolf Eichmann.
According to the cited source, both the opera and theatre versions focus on the trial of the odious Nazi lieutenant colonel Adolf Eichmann, the main person responsible for organizing and implementing the final solution in Europe, which meant the extermination of six million Jews between 1940-1945 (the historical phenomenon known as the Holocaust).
"In 1945, Eichmann escaped prosecution at the Nuremberg Trials and fled to South America under a false identity, where he was spotted by Israeli security services in 1960, brought to Jerusalem and tried in 1961. He was sentenced to death by hanging in 1962 for crimes against the Jewish people and crimes against humanity," the ONB reports.
Tickets are available on http://tickets.operanb.ro/ and at the ONB Ticket Office.
