A series of cultural events dedicated to the performing arts and the memory of Clara Haskil - ranging from public talks and interventions in urban spaces to film screenings, readings and musical moments - will take place in Bucharest between 11 and 16 December.
'The year 2025 marks an important moment for the world of international classical music: 130 years since the birth of Clara Haskil (1895-1960), one of the greatest pianists of the twentieth century, a symbol of interpretive sensitivity and devotion to art. This anniversary is a special opportunity to highlight, in Bucharest, her birthplace, the life and career of an artist who influenced international classical music through her flawless interpretations,' announces Headsome Communication Association, the organiser of the events, in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Monday.
Access to the events is free within the limits of available seating.
Born in Bucharest on 7 January 1895 into a Sephardic Jewish family, Clara Haskil later refined her artistry in Paris and went on to perform alongside some of the world's greatest musicians, from conductor Herbert von Karajan to Dinu Lipatti, who also became a close friend. In 1942 the pianist settled in Vevey, Switzerland, and today, as a meaningful gesture of recognition, one of the world's most important classical music competitions, with a tradition of more than six decades, bears her name: the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition, Vevey.
