Bucharest's Sector 1 City Hall financed the opening of reading clubs within the cultural project "The Joy of Reading" for approximately 47,000 schoolchildren and preschoolers from public educational units in this administrative-territorial area.
According to a press release from the City Hall of Sector 1 sent on Friday, spaces dedicated to reading were created in schools as accessible and age-appropriate areas, where children can read, participate in literary activities and spend time in a relaxed setting, different from the classic one in the classroom.
Through this project, each preschooler and student benefits from books recommended according to their age category, the selection being made by the educational units, through the Boards of Directors.
For the implementation of the "Joy of Reading" project, a total amount of 7,386,645 lei was allocated from the local budget of Sector 1. Of this budget, 5,043,015 lei was used for the purchase of books, and 2,343,630 lei for the arrangement of reading clubs and their coordination.
These operate in all state educational institutions in Sector 1 and are integrated into current educational activities, offering children a space dedicated to developing a passion for reading.
