The Government aims through the budget rectification project to protect citizens, ensure the functioning of public institutions and maintain the trust of European and international partners, Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare said on Monday evening in a post on his Facebook page.

"Today we published the budget rectification - an important step, at a time when economic challenges are real and cannot be ignored. It is an act of responsibility, through which we ensure that the state can fulfill all its obligations, correctly and on time. What do we propose through this rectification? To protect citizens - guarantee the payment of pensions, allowances, health benefits and social support for vulnerable Romanians, to ensure the functioning of public institutions: schools, hospitals, local authorities - without this rectification, many of them would have been in difficulty by the end of the year and to maintain the trust of European and international partners in Romania's capacity to make responsible fiscal-budgetary decisions", the minister of finance wrote.

He stressed that the Government is also maintaining public investments at a record level - over 150 billion lei - in infrastructure, education, health and energy.

"These are investments that continue to support economic growth and jobs. In the conditions in which the economic growth estimated at the beginning of the year has not been confirmed, and inflation has remained high, we are doing what is necessary to stabilize the budget deficit at 8.4%", Nazare pointed out.

According to him, the budget rectification is not just a technical exercise, but a necessary step to restore confidence and predictability to the Romanian economy.

"Through this joint effort, we demonstrate that the state knows how to realistically respond to challenges and create the conditions for development, financial stability and well-being for citizens", the minister of finance also wrote on his social media page.
The budget deficit on which the rectification was built rose to 8.4% of GDP, compared to 7% previously.
