A recent geographical discovery shows that the Buzau municipality is the largest of the Romanian cities located halfway between the North Pole and the Ecuador, which could be exploited for tourism purposes, the Mayor of this locality, Constantin Toma, made an announcement on Monday.
"On the National Day [of Romania, December 1 - editor's note] I received a letter from a famous geographer, Alexandru Boroiu, from the Pitesti University, who claims that Buzau is the largest of the Romanian cities located halfway between the North Pole and the Ecuador," the Mayor told AGERPRES.
The geographer also mentioned that the municipality could "create" a new tourist brand, which would be beneficial for the entire community.
"Buzau has a special geographical location, which could be capitalized on for tourism purposes (...) This is the reason why I send you this letter today, on Romania's National Day, which scientifically proves the fact that Buzau municipality is the largest of the Romanian cities situated halfway between the Ecuador and the North Pole, so that the local authorities can create a new tourist brand by using this scientific information, which would be beneficial for the entire community," said Alexandru Boroiu.
Moreover, according to Toma, the geographer said he was ready to go to Buzau to prove his affirmations and offer more information.
Alexandru Boroiu is pro-dean of the Faculty of Mechanics and Technology of the State University of Pitesti. He authored 29 books and university textbooks, as well as more than 200 scientific works.
