Consolidation works have begun on the building located at 63 Carol Boulevard, announced interim mayor of the Capital Stelian Bujduveanu.

The building was constructed in 1937 and has been classified as Class I seismic risk, the mayor wrote on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

'The interventions will ensure the building's strength and stability in the event of an earthquake, as well as increase energy efficiency, improving comfort for the residents. The project is 100% funded through non-reimbursable grants, via the National Programme for the Consolidation of Buildings with High Seismic Risk (PNCCRS), with a value of 7.4 million lei (excluding VAT),' Bujduveanu said.

According to a notice published on SEAP in 2024 by the Municipal Administration for the Consolidation of Buildings with Seismic Risk, the building is located on a plot of land measuring 258 square metres.

It is not included in the updated 2015 List of Historical Monuments but is situated in Protected Zone No. 05 - the 'Haussmann-style' Carol Boulevard. In this area, any intervention aimed at restoring buildings (including structural consolidation measures) must preserve or restore the original architecture of the facades. Any work on the building requires approval from the Ministry of Culture.

The property has a height regime of basement + ground floor + 5 storeys + attic (S+P+5E+M), comprising 15 privately owned apartments and five commercial or otherwise purposed spaces owned by legal entities.
