The energy industry, particularly natural gas and oil, continues to grow, and the country's largest refinery is located in Karachi, developed with the contribution of Romanian engineers, the new Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Romania, Ilyas Mehmood Nizami, said at a meeting with the President of the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIB), Iuliu Stocklosa.

"The energy industry, especially natural gas and oil, continues to expand, and Karachi hosts the country's largest refinery, developed with the contribution of Romanian engineers - a clear example of the success of Romanian-Pakistani cooperation. At the same time, other sectors, such as the food industry, are seeing steady growth, offering concrete opportunities for Romanian investors. These are further supported by the economic potential of a large population of around 240 million people, placing Pakistan fifth worldwide. This scale provides both significant domestic consumption opportunities and a skilled workforce for investors," the ambassador said, according to a CCIB press release.

He also underlined the importance of the IT and textile sectors and highlighted the value of the Pakistani workforce, which he described as skilled, well educated and with a very good command of the English language.

Iuliu Stocklosa presented the diplomat with the business and investment opportunities Romania offers to Pakistani partners, emphasising the potential for mutually beneficial cooperation.

"Romania's economy has the resources and capacity to supply partners in Pakistan with competitive goods and services, thus contributing to strengthening and balancing bilateral trade. Today's meeting marks an important step in deepening economic dialogue and promoting sustainable cooperation between the business communities of Romania and Pakistan, while also strengthening long-term bilateral relations," the CCIB President said.

The two officials agreed to organise economic forums dedicated to promoting areas of economic interest for both countries.

The visit concluded with a tour of the CCIB Palace, during which the ambassador was presented with the history of the building and the spaces that can host events promoting bilateral cooperation in the economic, cultural and social fields. The meeting was also attended by Gabriela Iftene, CCIB Executive Director, and representatives of the International Relations Department.
