As of December 22, 2025, the National Bank of Romania (BNR) will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a silver coin to mark 175 years since the birth of archaeologist Grigore Tocilescu.
On the obverse, the coin presents an image of the triumphal monument at Adamclisi, the inscription 'ROMANIA' in an arc, the year of issue '2025', the coat of arms of Romania and the face value '10 LEI'.
On the reverse, the coin presents the portrait and name of the archaeologist Grigore Tocilescu, as well as his birth and death years '1850' and '1909'.
The silver coins are housed in transparent plastic capsules and are accompanied by booklets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue and certificates of authenticity in Romanian, English and French. The certificates of authenticity bear the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.
The maximum mintage is 5,000 silver coins.
The selling price for the silver coin, including the booklet and the certificate of authenticity, is lei 660.00, VAT excluded.
The coins are put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanta, Craiova, Iasi and Timisoara.
