All five matches that took place on Sunday in the 5th round of the Superbet Chess Classic Romania 2025 chess tournament, the second stage of the Grand Chess Tour 2025 circuit, hosted by the Grand Hotel in Bucharest, ended in draws.
Romanian grandmaster Bogdan Deac shared his point with Uzbek Nodirbek Abdusatorov, the 2021 world rapid chess champion.
The reigning world champion, Indian Gukesh Dommaraju, drew with Polish Jan-Krzysztof Duda.
The matches between Indian Praggnanandha Rameshbabu and Frenchman Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, American Levon Aronian and Frenchman of Iranian origin Alireza Firouzja, and between Americans Fabiano Caruana and Wesley So also ended in a draw.
Three players lead the standings, with 3 points each, Caruana, Vachier-Lagrave and Rameshbabu, followed by Deac, So, Aronian and Firouzja, with 2.5 points each, while Duda, Dommaraju and Abdusatorov have 2 points each.
Monday will be a break day, and the tournament will continue on Tuesday, with the sixth round matches, in which Deac will face Caruana.
The Bucharest leg of the Grand Chess Tour 2025 circuit, with prizes worth 350,000 US dollars, takes place between May 7-16, at the Grand Hotel in the capital.
