Chief of Defence, Japanese counterpart hold talks at MCCS in Brussels

Chief of the Defence Staff General Gheorghita Vlad held talks in Brussels with his Japanese counterpart on bilateral cooperation in the area of educational exchanges between military education institutions.

According to a press release the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) sent to AGERPRES on Friday, on the second day of the NATO Military Committee in the Chiefs of Defence Session (MCCS), General Gheorghita Vlad participated in sessions dedicated to cooperation with NATO partners, agerpres reports.

The discussions took place within the NATO - Ukraine Council, the NATO - Georgia session, as well as in an extended format with partners from the Indo-Pacific region - Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea - and addressed ways to strengthen dialogue and cooperation in the security area, the release reads.

'On the sidelines of the meeting, General Vlad held a bilateral meeting with his Japanese counterpart, a state with which Romania established a strategic partnership as early as 2023. The discussions focused on deepening bilateral cooperation, including in the area of educational exchanges between military education institutions, as well as the possibility of Japan's participation in the Mine Countermeasures Black Sea Task Group - MCM BS TG,' the Ministry of National Defence pointed out.

In this context, the Chief of the Defence Staff reiterated the invitation addressed to his Japanese counterpart to pay an official visit to Romania, with a view to strengthening military dialogue and identifying new directions for practical cooperation between the two states.
